For all your homeware needs, head to Rossiters of Bath, the award-winning department store selling furniture, accessories, gifts and an interior design department. Here, in the centre of the city's shopping area, housed in a fine Georgian building, you can while away many an hour browsing the four floors loaded with a veritable menagerie of lovely things. Rossiters of Bath started life in 1961, when its founders Michael and Ann Rossiter travelled from Bermuda to England, inspired to create a store with a feel of the Bermudian shop style. The relatively tiny original area of the shop is now the greetings card department; as the store expanded over the years it took over neighbouring buildings and in 1999 the operation was bought by Wildings department store, who have developed the brand ever since and introduced a new clothing range. Rossiters of Bath focuses on up-and-coming British based designers and manufacturers, with the store's own style combining the avant-garde with the classical. Begin at the ground floor where you'll find kitchenware including delicate and creative china and glass designs, as well as international ceramics. Shop for cushions, throws, baskets and candles alongside ideal gift choices such as toiletries and gadgets. Those with pets will be delighted to find an entire range of accessories perfect for pampering your four-legged friend, and on the upper floors is situated the range of furniture, including plush sofas, dining tables and chairs and exquisite artwork. For those looking to enlist the help of a designer in creating a new look for the home, there's the interior department offering a full professional service tailored for your needs. Here you can also browse the range of fabrics and wallpapers – so let your imagination run wild and help make your pad perfect with the help of Rossiters of Bath.

I do not think I have ever been into a shop like this before. What a cornucopia of goods and things. It seemed to go on for ever. Upstairs consisted of sofas, lamps mirrors, tables chairs and so forth. All set out in an atmospheric way set off by the original wood panelling. Downstairs was more gifty. Staff were very friendly and helpful to me which added to our pleasant time in Bath.
